at min.3.00 Grant mirrors the cube by loopcut, go to wireframe, delete half, then mirror. Is there a difference to the auto mirror option? will it change something in the later workflow?

If you are talking about auto mirror from loop tools - nope. It basically does the same thing for you. Blender has many ways to accomplish the same things. And many addons focus on simplifying workflows.

As Boban says Auto mirror is just a different ‘tool’ doing the same thing the normal tools do. Personally I prefer using the modifiers directly, find these variations annoying.

Another option to achieve the same thing is HardOps alt+x (my personal preference). It shows gizmo and has a few options (like add modifier, add modifier and immediately apply it, etc.)
