Merging Removes Too Many Vertices

Please see the attached screenshot. I am following Grant’s Modular Dungeon tutorial and trying to merge the two sets of vertices as explained at about 6:50 in Lesson 2.2 (Creating a Barrel). However, merging removes 146 vertices, despite the merging distance being very small. I don’t see any change in the geometry, so I don’t understand where all these vertices are being removed from or why.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have object mesh duplication!
So all vertices are doubled and stay at the same stop.
In that case the distance doesn’t have any influence, because of the same coordination.

You probably have used the e extrude option by accident.
Pressing e and aborting it by pressing esc, will still have created this extrusion.

Thanks FedPete, I deleted and restarted the barrel, paying attention to the extrusion. This solved the problem. Thank you for the response!

You didn’t need to begin over again.
Merge by distance was enough to solve this problem!

But re-doing a challenge will increase your muscle memory experience.
Which is important for working with Blender (know your hotkeys).

Have fun!
