Merged Vertices Creating Inside face

Hello,
During the lecture when the double vertices were merge for the dome tower, I noticed that it looked like even after the vertices were merged it left a face inside the mesh. I was wondering if there is any point to keeping a face inside a mesh (where no one would see it) and also how to delete it without deleting other faces. Is there a merge option that auto deletes it?

Hidden faces are technically no problem for 3D packages.
But they can influence face ‘smoothness’ by the way Blender calculates light reflections.
It’s better to remove inner -unseen- faces because it saves memory and render calculation time too.

You can find internal faces often by using the wireframe view. The face mode places a dot in the centre of each face which aids discovery.

X; for delete; only faces, will get rid of them.
