In this lecture we finally look at how to construct the sine and cosine rules using what we previously learnt about the Pythagorean theorem and SOH CAH TOA.
These processes draw on a lot of what we previously covered in the course - especially for the cosine rule.
If you found yourself stuck or overwhelmed at any point then try reviewing some of those other lectures:
- Algebra 101 - Algebra & Equations
- Simultaneous Equations (Substitution) - Algebra & Equations
- Pythagorean Theorem - Angles & Circles
- SOH CAH TOA - Angles & Circles
Whilst you could solve any triangle using only these simpler building blocks, it can be a lot of extra work and it’s much more efficient to use the sine and cosine rules, especially if it means using extra memory to store a whole bunch of temporary variables!
