I made the full set before going through the lectures, then followed all the lectures to see how my initial approach varied from the course approach. Was happy to see that for the most part it turned out to be consistent. After finishing the final lecture I then went back and did the entire scene from scratch in one go, to check what course material I had to go back to in order finish it. Had to check back for the edge split modifier functionality and the DOF settings. Everything else was already stuck in my mind.
My favourite part of this was the non-planar surfaces, that was an absolute eye opener in regards to keeping everything as clean as possible.
Saved the entire project and organised it as clean as possible to go back for animation later.
