I want to spend more time on this scene, But I think I would benefit more to learn more techniques so I wont be limited on my current knowledge.

Yes, just follow along the course and come back to the chess set, with more skills on UV-Mapping, composition, lighting and material nodes.
Have fun, and there is still much to learn.

definitely, i lost my data but kept making more things until i came back to the course and i made the chess set alot better and faster
