I tried to make an opal, but I think the details are lost at 100% view. Anyone have thoughts on it/how best to improve it? It’s not bad at 200%, so maybe just having one larger chunk would be better. Feeback/concrit welcome!
I think what you need is more contrast, but that’s hard to achieve with the peculiar rainbow sparkle of real opal, which you’ve captured pretty well here. If you just jack up the contrast wholesale on the image, you’re going to get more of a “light-splitting prism” look.
Since the canvas is so small, I agree: you might want to remove the small one to allow the large one to be bigger. Also, maybe try a 3/4 view mounting it in gold, like a brooch or something; that would also make it pop a bit more.
I hope you revisit this later on; the detail itself came out nice, and the canvas size is holding you back =)
Thanks for the feedback! I came back to it, and I like this one better. The angle is slightly different which gives a better look.
Solid!
