I still have no idea how to light the scene for rendering, but here is my final submission for this course.

Looking great, especially with his tail curled, as it now looks more natural.

Because it is an outside scene, only a sun lamp and a background HDRI image could be enough.
Dessert, hot, warm, bright, sun casting sharp shadows.
If you use ‘Sky’, no lamps needed.

I tis very nice but we lose so much of your great Lizard behind itself and the rock!
Ground and background work very well too.

@NP5 I repositioned the camera, I like this render a lot better as well!

We get a much better view of your hard work in the new render.
Though the eye level first image made it much more possible it was bigger, now looking down on it a bit it seems Panther sized or similar. All good either way.
Great rock too.
