Can you see the lamp moving in the left (render) panel?
Nope i was unable to see it moving in the left panel . I think it was a bug .It got fixed after i split the right panel and used it as render panel . Due to some bug i think lamp was not added to the left panel .

It can happen (bugs).
The happens a lot in the beginning of using blender is my impression.
Then you are clicking op options to try them out. Creating combinations not logical for the software, which leads to strange behaviors.
Sometimes I start with a fresh .blend file, appending the objects I need.
