Lighting in Medieval Dungeon

Hey all, kinda at my wits end, guess I don’t have much wit left.

I can’t even wrap my head about the lighting stuff. I’m trying to learn about light thru blocking light leaks.

  1. The course shows using floors to block the ceiling but this doesnt work for me.
    a) the floors dont block light and they are transparent from underneath
    b) I duplicated SM_floor and inverted the normal using modeling plugin which makes it visible from below but it still transmit lights.
    c) I read things need to be 10cm+ thick for lument but I cant even figure out how to change thickness!

Please help me understand 1) how to change thickness 2) how to make the sm_floor block light like I expect and allow me to make a perfectly dark room. 2b) is there a way to do this by alltering the mesh properties or is the only ways to use “fixer” meshes either visible to player or light blocking geometries not visible to player?

I am a decent coder and i think thats working against me here because i am constnatly frustrated by how hard even “simple” things are in UE… :frowning: please help
