You can just click the little yellow circle by the ‘Base Color’ in the material properties panel and choose ‘Vertex Color’ without having to dive into the node editor.

Oh interesting, ordinary click, never tried that before, lol. Node editor seems easy and more visual as to what in plugged in where for me.
