I use the “left - click” preference instead of the “right - click” preference, witch is what most people use. With the lasso select shortcut, the shortcut only seems to apply for “right - click” select. So I was wondering, how can I use the lasso select shortcut as a “right click” user?

Which version of Blender ?
In earlier Blender days, right click was select.
That is changed to the more user friendly ,left click to select. Right-clkick is for options (context menus).
You can see preferences and key usage and tweak there?

Hold down Ctrl and use the right mouse button to drag out a lasso selection.
We all develop habits and the lasso is not one I use but came across it the other day so it is fresh in my mind!
