Lamp post from environment course

I’m trying to give my lamp a bit of a medieval look. Any tips on how I can improve it would be amazing.

It’s been about a year since I last touched blender. My skills got pretty rusty, but it sure feels great to be back!

The outcrop beams that the lanterns, (or are they bird feeding tables?) are suspended from should be of smaller dimension wood than the main upright. While they might be morticed into the upright, I suspect a supporting angled support a more reasonable construction. Obviously bevel all the sharp corners. The top of the upright, could be Pyramid shaped. Select top face and, face menu, ‘poke’, creates a central vertex for simple lifting up.

Thanks for all the tips! I’ll definitely take them into account. Making the top pyramid-shaped sounds simple and efficient. I never would’ve thought of it. And the supporting beam is such a good idea. I’ll fix it up asap.

Here’s the tweaked version. Added the support beams (which unfortunately are not very obvious due to the lighting) and tipped the top. I’m quite content with what I’ve got so far, but I’m sure it can get even better.

Medieval look means natural materials and colors.
Also, dimensions are important. It has a cartoony look (small, compact).
I would edge loop the pole and twist and turn it a bit. like a tree trunk, branch.
try to find reference materials.

Thanks for the tips! I didn’t get into colour yet, but will soon enough. For now, I was hoping for a low-poly cartoonish feel, but I sure want to try twisting the wood to make it look more natural. I think it’s a great idea.
