From the start of this section, I wanted to model the lamp that was on my desk. I hope it won’t be too much of a pain to model, but I thought the design would be simple enough.

Cool lamp!
One thing to watch out for: this is a section on rigging and animating. The lamp used by Michael in this section consists of two main arms that swivel, which is relatively easy to rig and doesn’t require deformation. An example:
Your arm has a lot of different sections to form a sort of pliable tube. This will require many more bones, as well as deformation to look right when animating it. It is not impossible, but if you make the lamp like in your concept drawing you will make life much harder for yourself when trying to animate it.
