so i was doing the blender course and grant abbit joined 2 vertex when beveling on the corners and all but i was wondering if joining two vertexs in middle is necessary, i didnt understand the purpose of the bevel
I think, because of creating a sharp dent?
How does it look, when no joining?
The ‘dent’s’ purpose is to look like a little random damage so the column does not look pristine and brand new.
You do not say when in the lecture this was shown, but it may be to explain that Blender always guesses where the triangles are supposed to go.
Now this one looks very obvious to us humans, and probably Blender would render it correctly as we expect too. But in theory, or other less clear situations, Blender could render it as if the top and bottom verts were connected making the triangles, (that render flat), go the other way. (in this case actually removing the dent! visually in the render)
So, actually joining those two verts ensures the dent will render as we assume it will and should.
Yes, it is fairly unlikely here that Blender would guess wrong, but this is a teaching opportunity in a simple model.
very weird, i guess i understood why it is so thanks
thanks!!
