Issues with bevel tool

I am trying to bevel the edge that Mikey beveled at 4:35 in the video (see photos), but cannot get the tool to behave as it does in the video. Rather than turning the edge into a more rounded shape it will only let me bevel to the top side of the edge (not actually beveling at all, but just adding unnecessary geometry).

I have tried using control + B and the tool in the toolbar, but cannot get either to cooperate. I’m sure that there’s something simple that I’m missing, but can’t for the life of me figure out what it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would select all and check the Merge by distance.
Its likely you have a double extrusion at that point.

Thank you so much! I knew it would be something silly like that. I appreciate your prompt response. I seriously spun my wheels on this for at least 30 minutes.
