Is it better to buy courses from Udemy or from here?

Hey - are there benefits / advantages to buying from Udemy vs buying from here?

I’m in a country with an appalling inflation rate, but thankfully Udemy has localised pricing which makes things a lot more affordable if I buy from there. I also like the autoplay feature on Udemy but that feels like quite a minor advantage.

I want to support Gamedev directly as I worry Udemy take a lot of the fees but I can’t ignore how much the localised pricing helps.

Are there any other advantages/disadvantages/bonuses to buying from either place? Thanks!

Hi Riker,

Our courses are on sale on a regular basis. We also have humble bundles from time to time.

On gamedev.tv, the biggest advantage is that our team can help you with technical problems. We cannot do that on Udemy because we do not have access to Udemy’s servers.

You may also request features here. In fact, we already have a long list with ideas but since our team is rather small, it sometimes takes a while until a feature gets implemented.

If you haven’t purchased any of our courses on our platform yet, you could enrol in our “Get started for FREE” courses, which cater to beginners. Here is Grant Abbitt’s free Blender course. This way, you can explore our website a bit more, and decide whether you prefer to learn here on our platform or, for example, on Udemy.

The best way to support us is to purchase our courses on gamedev.tv.

Regarding the autoplay feature, I’ve just checked one of our courses on our platform, and I see this button:

If it is missing or not working, please let us know via support@gamedev.tv.

Hi hi - yes, I took the free Sheep course via this website and I’ve been taking Blender Creator via Udemy.

The cost saving is really significant with localised pricing in Udemy. $7 a month subscription for access to all their premium courses ongoing, and if I want to keep lifetime access it would be around $6-10 per course. This is obviously only with localised pricing - minimum wage is absurdly low over here compared to UK or US, so this kind of thing really makes a difference.

I’m really interested saving up and taking the live 8 week course on here however. That really looks great.

I should have spotted this! I am a fool - thank you, will use it.

It is perfectly fine if you opt for the cheaper platform. GDTV does get money from Udemy (minus the fees), and you’ll automatically support us if you purchase one of our courses on either platform.
