Is this the kind of thing big game companies such as Rockstar do with a game such as GTA V? I was just wondering if this method would be good in a multiplayer game, how would an outside player see it if the other player were to change views?

This is sort of how most companies do it. All it really does is change the render layer so you only render the other people in third person and not their first person. Take Genji in overwatch as an example, in third person he flips around when you see him but in first person while playing Genji it is very basic with just arms.

Yeah I learnt more about how you are able to make outsiders see one mesh, yet the player sees another, I definitely agree that this is how they most likely go about doing it, I haven’t looked at this section in a while but from memory I was confused because I believe you were able to see two meshes at one point, either way I have a much better understanding now
