Impending doom approaches...(Sculpting a Cartoon Head)

Moon lord (head) has awoken!

And the devil head too.

So I finally finished the course! It took almost 2 years.
Actually I’m not entirely satisfied with moon lord result but I decided to move on.
This was the best I could do with current skills.
Maybe I’d revisit much later again, after taking other courses and practicing more.

Perhaps you just need to work on your imagination and design skills. Your technical skills look good to me. It may b e you just need to wait for a little inspiration and have another go?
Cheers.

This is going to be a terrible night… ^v^

I don’t see why. I’m sure you have your reasons, but I can’t imagine the dissatisfaction coming from anything more than PBR tweeks or fine details. You completely nailed the shape; I recognized this right away!

The heads are evocative. I like the demon head. Nicely done.

Fine sculpts.
Can an eye see with no pupil?
Moon Lord defence weapon, a strong torch! Or sunshine.

It’s mostly about eye on forehead; I can’t explain well but I feel it’s much less noticable than in original sprite. I tried tweaking materials and eye model for some time but couldn’t get it to what I want.

Ok, I can see where you’re going with that (no pun intended). Here are a few differences I’m noticing (not necessarily positive or negative, just differences) - maybe something will help you pinpoint exactly what you would want to do with it if you decide to continue. The center eye in your model:

  • Isn’t almond-shaped the way humans expect an eye with eyelids to be
  • Has a different eyewhite colour vs the rest of the eyes (and furthermore, it’s darker and has less saturation. That alone would cause the other, brighter eyes to take the audience’s focus away from this eye).
  • Has teeth (this is awesome)
  • Appears very matte for an eye, where eyes are normally quite glossy. You can see this in the original Moon Lord sprites in the form of specular reflections on the top-left and bottom-right of the pupil.

I hope you’re feel proud of this sculpt either way, because I genuinely think that especially at your self-admitted skill level, you’ve done a very fine job of it! :+1:
