This is my lamp In the rest position with the limits attached.
This is the lamp in pose position (The pose got changed when I parented it to the constraint bones)
This is my lamp in edit mode… Is it weird that the edit mode shows my bone structure in rest position but in object mode the bones conform to my pose position?

No, this is standard. The edit-pose will always be the “rest” pose.

Phew, thanks a lot. I’m about to start animating and I had a nagging feeling I did some damage there.

Rigging and animating make me also nervous. Problems will be visible late in the project. Then difficult to fix without losing some of the work.
Practise a lot. That is the key.
