Ik ignores limit rotation constraint

Anyone advise on what I’m missing here?

The upper leg bone here has a rotation constraint, limiting its rotation around the x axis to +/- 45 degrees. Any attempt to manually rotate it beyond those limits is ignored.

However, if I move the foot bone via an ik bone constraint, the rotation constraint on the upper leg is ignored, allowing it to assume what should be illegal positions.

What am I missing?

For me., it is too long ago. But maybe change the order of the modifiers?
And maybe, you need a special IK Limit rotation?

To be honest, I don’t used them, these constrains. Too much work, less helpful in my humble projects.
