I had this issue as well, due to the VRCharacter not spawning as the character controller in play mode.
Turns out the problem was the ‘World Override’ setting.
Located under ‘Blueprints’, changing ‘World Override’ to either ‘None’, or to the desired VR game mode
makes the map to launch with the VRCharacter.
