I used ellipse selection and then selection shrink to start the ends of this scroll. I also used selection shrink on parts of the seal and ribbons.
I selected the transparency around the cap, then inverted the selection, and then used selection grow to put the glow around this cap.
I used the selection border to put a border on this icon. Maybe this could be an icon for selected status on the scroll.
For this money, I made shadow layers (50% opacity), selected the objects, and then filled in black on the shadow layers. Then I moved the layers.
