After failing to get Particles to work, I started to be UN able to click on rocket in scene to edit.
I am clearly lost now…

Have you already tried to restart Unity?
When you try to select the rocket and it does not work, check your Hierarchy. Unity is neither intelligent nor can it read your mind. If something is in front of the rocket, even if you cannot see it, Unity might select that game object instead of the rocket. In that case, I’d suggest to simply select the rocket from the Hierarchy.
Also make sure that you are trying to select the rocket in the scene window, not in the game window. That sometimes happens to me.
If nothing helps, it would be great if you could share a screenshot of Unity. Maybe forgot something to mention that you could try as well.
