isnt it much faster just to cut an edge like this:

and then dissolve these two edge loops?

Seems much faster than deleting faces and reconnecting them afterwards…

There are no rules in this.
Working with Blender is all about being efficient.
And that depends on your knowledge of the tools provided in Blender.

Your example case works, but your mesh is then based on rectangles. While having a square (also a rectangle) gives the better render results (surface calculations, stretching).
