I got lost in the mirror

Hi,

Thanks for great course, it’s been smooth until now. What happened is that it’s the house that got mirrored, not the roof. Here is an image of the house and the roof before the mirroring:

And here is an image of the house and the roof after the mirroring:

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

You can drag vertices, edges, and faces through the other side of the mirror ax!

To prevent this, switch on the clipping option, in the mirror modifier. And drag vertices back to the correct side of the mirror. It can be, that you get unwanted clipping behavior.

In that case:

  • turn off mirror
  • drag roof parts to the other side of the axis.
  • Switch mirror on
  • drag roof parts to the center ax WITH clipping on.

Have you separated the roof from the house?
Did you move the roof once separated in object mode not edit mode?

Actually, it looks like you are mirroring the whole house.
General Q&A note
Please give full screenshots with any questions. With the relevant panels open.
Also include the lecture time that is relevant to the problem/issue.
This can be done by Blender itself, via the ‘Window’ menu bar top left hand side. On that menu drop down is ‘save screenshot’.
Close ups where they help.

Thanks all for the good advice! I went back to redo the separation lecture, and it’s working as expected now.
