I Finished the Unreal C++ Developer: Learn C++ and Make Video Games Course

I got a certificate and later I’ll print it.
What courses do you recommend doing next(I allow non GameDev.tv courses)?
This is my requirements:
It needs to relatively popular.

It needs to grow my knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 and be able to make the characters and levels.

I am thinking of making a real game that I can put on mobile.

I am thinking of learning Blender. Is Blender necessary to make better character? Are there better alternatives than Blender? I want to learn Blender because I want to make better characters. In Unreal one time in the ToonTanks I had a challenge that was at the end of the section that makes me choose new static meshes. But I couldn’t find many things. I want to be able to create my own characters. It would also be nice if people could play with me. Like multiplayer. I am really curious about levels. I do not how to switch levels in Unreal Engine 5. I would also like a main menu and other features that “normal” games are published have.

I also am wondering: could I do an Unreal Engine 4 course when I’m using Unreal Engine 5. Is Unreal Engine 4 really compatible with Unreal Engine 5 courses? I decide learning Unreal Engine 5 because later it’ll be published and I want to make better games.

Now what do you think about what course I should do after Unreal Engine C++ Developer: Learn C++ and Make Video Games?

I am also thinking of reviewing Unreal C++ Developer: Learn C++ and Make Video Games. How do I do that?
I’ll just make up a review(this is not my final one(maybe it is); it’s just one that shows you the idea):
I think that the Unreal C++ Developer: Learn C++ Developer course is outstanding. It teaches you without confusing beginners(I’m not a beginner, I’m just saying in the perspective of when I started the course) like me.

It starts with a game called Triple X. I think it is an simple game that teaches you the fundamentals of C++ in a fun way not like a lesson that teaches you it; that is a more boring way. In fact, I already knew C++ before I took this course(I learnt at Codecademy). I already had a year experience with coding just not making games. Here is a fun(maybe it isn’t) fact: I don’t use Unity or any other game engines. Instead I like the project based. I like this course the project based way because it’s actually fun and you just want to learn more so the game will be better.

Next we have: Bulls & Cows! I think it expands your knowledge of C++ but it introduces Unreal Engine. I am satisfied with that approach because I wanted to get started Unreal while learning C++. I wouldn’t want the Bull Cow game to be just in plain C++.

Next I’m going to analyse the Building Escape. It was fun and I built the grabber. I like that idea of grabing things and putting it in the tirgger volume. I kind of average like that games but by opinions I know I’ll make more complex games than that. It made me develop my level design skills because I had to start the game from scratch. I liked Building Escape!

Next: Toon Tanks! The game introduces you to 3rd person. I like that now it is not just relying on the default pawn. I learnt stuff about projectiles and how they can move. I learnt how to add audio. I also started to learn AI which was cool! I am curious about how enemies could follow you.

Next my favourite: Simple Shooter. It started off with learning about characters. Now I love characters better than pawns or actors. I practised on more input. I took into a cool deep dive into animation which I really liked. Then I went into AI which was very cool that you could code or Blueprint the enemies. And that they can follow you and kill you. Then I was faced into UI. Then I did the Health Bars and that I really liked health bars. They tell you how much health is left. Then I polished up the game: I added music. Personally, now I think that I make a game that’s actually exciting. The music was actually like a real game’s one.

I am going to rank which my least favourite projects to my favourite:
Triple X!
Bulls & Cows!!
Building Escape!!!
Simple Shooter!!!

In summary, I think this course is engaging and is an excellent and outstanding course!

After taking this I feel like I can actually make games which I really wanted to.

If you really want to take it another step forward I may recommend you to check out the Unreal Multiplayer Master: Video Game Dev In C++ Course.

There are a couple of early access courses for Unreal Engine 5,
Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints - First Person Shooter (FPS),

Since you own the Unreal Engine 4 C++ course, you currently can gain free access to the upcoming beta course Unreal 5.0 C++ Developer: Learn C++ and Make Video Games.
You can get it by going to the Unreal Engine 4 C++ course, and it should be the first item on the lectures list.

Unreal Engine 4 Documentation - Open Level (By Name)

Unreal Engine 4 Documentation - Creating a Main Menu

Blender is a great tool for creating 3D models/assets and even animations, to create your own models 3D modeler is absolutely necessary.

I’m not sure if ‘better’ is the right word here…
Choosing your 3D modeler is a preference and it can depend on lots of things…
With that being said, I personally prefer Blender since it’s easy to learn and you can create models super fast thanks to its efficient type of workflow.
Also Blender is completely free to use, even for production.

I am almost finished this course about 1/2 through SimpleShooter, and I can tell that one thing that I am lacking skills in is Blueprints, I remember seeing the initial part of the Simple Shooter where we had to do some things with blueprints wiht execution pins and whatnot, and I had no idea what to do - it was like another world.

So, I’m looking at the FPS using blueprints. I am not a FPS fan, but ,I need to get more experience with the blueprints.

Yes, I agree. I am also lacking Blueprints experience. I don’t know much Blueprints. I would do a Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints course like this:

or maybe something else.

I found out that the SimpleShooter is really fun.
