So I started The Complete Blender Creator Course (for Blender 2.7X) back in July 2018 and had just finished the “last” section on The Human Head. Throughout the entirety of the course, I had done my best to try and blog my progress in it. Today, I’d like to share with everyone my blog and work in the course in hopes of inspiring and helping others that are also taking it or have taken it in the past. And of course, I also welcome and appreciate any constructive feedback as always!
I think my plan is to try out version 2.8 with the help of the new lectures uploaded for the course. What do you guys think about this? Afterwards, I will probably pick up another Udemy course and perhaps start on a personal project with a much bigger scope…
Anyway, without further ado, here is a link to my blog along with some pictures below showing my main accomplishments in the course.
I have decided to jump over to 2.8. definitely!
I started also the Blender environment course, but it was in 2.8 and I was getting use to 2.79. And I hated it 2.8 (leaning the UI again, bugs, missing features) so I stopped the environments course and 2.8.
But Blender 2.8 is a game changer. I saw the showreel of new 2.8 features (which I will never use probably ) and I thought, Blender 2.79 is exit. Start learning the new standard. I will redo some of the GameDev lessons, where 2.8 is used.
Again it will be a steep learning curve, especially unlearning things, I think.
I’m right behind you there! Like Pete, the differences will probably bug the heck out of me at first but I’ll stay the course as it is such capable software.
Having already made the switch, I think the biggest annoyances I’m finding are the Render Settings for Eevee and the changes to the animation stuff. The best advise I can give all three of you as experienced Blender Users is…
Go through each of the menus, locate the commands you use most often, and make sure they have shortcuts assigned. [redacted] Everything else is really just - changes to the layout and where things are.
EDIT
Once you’ve set your shortcuts, open your preferences and click save preferences. I discovered that while I thought I had just not remade the shortcuts since the last time I reset the preferences, they actually were not carrying over in the startup file. I’ve double and triple checked using the save preferences option and it in fact works.
Thank you for all the feedback! I think I’ve been convinced that 2.8 is the way to go. I will be going through the new gamedev tutorials with everyone’s tips and advice in mind.
