LOL, one or two lessons after adding the constraints Michael had us add control bones which completely ignore the constraints anyways. So, if you use control bones… constraints don’t matter.

Definately worth picking up the characters course as well even if its in 2.79 you can pretty much follow it without an issue.
I did mention the angle being the issue
