I cannot make anisotropic metalic brush effect to work in Blender 4

Hello everyone,

I’m working with the new Blender Principle BSD. Under the specaular section, I modfy the anisotropic value but I do not see the brush effect in the metal material.

Edit: I’m including how it looks as well as the node settings.

Any suggestions?

I think you need also some texture coordinates (purple nodes).

Thank you FedPete

Where should I connect the Texture Coordinate node?

I think you are right they have changed something about how it works.
Or it is a bug and will get fixed, I tried it o my 4.01.

I should just skip this texture for now and move forward with the course.

Indeed. I digged up some information on what FedPete suggested and I found some Youtube videos with some guidance but it is a more complex solution. So I skipped it for now.

First, It only works in cycles engine. Are you using cycles engine?
Second, You can only see it in the render shading mode. Are you perhaps in Material Preview shading mode?
Third, maybe add a tangent node and set to x or y. Some people use the UV Map option. then connect that to the tangent input.
Fourth, Look in bottom right corner of your Blender window. Is it 4.0.0 or 4.0.1 then you need to update to 4.0.2.

AH that is it, I keep forgetting useless Eevve engine, lol.

Still does not make the effect it does in the tutorial but does alter the light highlights. Which is as I suspect an improvement towards reality.

Image in action as you describe.

Oh 4th, suppose I need that too, sigh.

Edit

A noise texture sort of gets back the scratch effect but directionality from coordinates is hard to make as expected.

I haven’t done the scratches, but I’m pretty sure it should be a bump node with the noise going into the height instead of a normal map node.

Possibly not much difference.
Mapping it well is the main problem

NP5, It looks like you are going the right way. I just wonder if the scratches can be smoother and continous?
