I can’t merge the two vertices, no matter how big I set the range?

Hey fellow learners!

I am currently watching the Section 2, Lecture 27 video and unfortunately I am stuck.

The teacher explains the extruding feature. He extrudes vertices and at the end wants to remove a pair of doubles (it’s happening around 04:15 in the video).

However when I follow the steps, I can’t merge the two vertices, no matter how big I set the range.

What am I doing wrong?

Directly after making this post I found out what I did wrong. I assumed that the vertices will be moved automatically because of their close location. I need to select the second vertex as well. So now it worked!

For future reference, if you look at the bottom of the tool shelf after selecting “Remove Doubles” there is an option to merge un-selected. by clicking the box you can merge un-selected vertices with the selected ones when in range
