How do you change the trees' render distance?

So I decided to add some small forests around my town with the “paint trees” terrain tool. The problem is that in both the Unity scene and game view the trees only appear at relatively close ranges. This doesn’t happen for manually placed trees or other models. Is there any to change the render distance for the “paint trees” tool, or are there any other ways of doing this apart from manually placing every single tree?

You can adjust the fade distance in the config part of the terrain tool.
