When doing the lesson with the default scene (cube, lamp, camera and added plane) I get shadows on the plane. However, when adding lamps to my chess scene no shadows are shown on the chessboard.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try using one of the directional lights (like the spot light).
Casting shadows is about placement, intensity/strength, and size of your lamps. Something to consider for point lamps in cycles is that “Strength” is the same as watts in the real-world
