Hello, I'm new

I thought I would say Hi, get involved with the community as is recommended in the introductory video

A long time ago, I had “learn Unreal Engine” on my to-do list. A few years later, I decided to get started. After an hour or so, I gave up in front of its complexity. Forward a few years, to last December, I decided to give it another go. And this time, I’m sticking to it. I followed some YouTube tutorials on UE5, and then got into watching the official online courses.

Yesterday I saw an ad for this course, it was discounted, and I thought Ok, let’s buy it. It did not take me to the checkout process, but the course was available. I thought, hmm, that’s weird. I thought maybe the purchase did not go through. I did not want to lose the window when the course was discounted. So I go to my purchase history, trying to figure things out, and lo and behold, I had already bought this course in December 2016 (for $10 at the time). The ONLY Udemy course I ever bought about Unreal or game development. So, I patted myself on the back.

Hi and welcome to the community.

Unreal Engine is complex but it also is so rewarding. I actually worked with Unity and did some real-world VR projects using it thanks to GameDev and now I wouldn’t look back because, while it is tough to learn, it looks amazing by comparison.

It actually isn’t so bad and one really good thing it has going for it is consistency. Materials, Blueprints, Animations, Sound all use a very similar system in that it is node based so it really helps.

C++ and Unreal is tough but is really worth it - been doing C++ since 1995.

Also, the community here and in discord is great for getting help.

Enjoy the course and stick with it. It is so rewarding.
