Grabbing local axis

Is there a way to grab on the local axis similar to scaling?

Not sure what lesson you are, be patient … !

This below, works only if you didn’t apply rotation to the object.

Guessing at what you mean.

Assuming you have not applied rotation and scale, pressing G for grab followed by the axis you wish to use TWICE and movement will be constrained to the local, not the global axis.

Thank you both. I was applying transformations, making it not work. Makes sense.

A much overlooked facility is creating a custom axis.

If you have moved an item to a position you want, but then need to apply rotation and scale, you can create a custom axis by Clicking the axis dropdown (usually set as global) and, With your moved orientation object selected, on the right hand side of that dropped down panel is a little ‘+’.

Click it! It creates a new axis basis.

That is the local axis of that object. It will be given the name of the object that was selected.

Now. You can apply the rotation and scale to the object. Which enables the use of modifiers etc. correctly. But you can select the previous local axis now from that axis drop down and move the object by it’s old local axis.
