I made mine totally different. I wanted to use a hex top so I used the extra mesh addon i already had and made a hex with it. Then I used a cube coming out of the ball join and did extrude to cursor. After adding in details I think it looks pretty good and not just like a big extrude. I used an array spun around the hex for the different legs.
