GitHub for Unity no longer supported

Just an FYI that a few things with this video aren’t accurate anymore:

  • You can’t access the asset store from within Unity anymore
  • You can’t find GitHub for Unity on the asset store even from a browser
  • If you Google GitHub for Unity it takes you to https://unity.github.com/ where you can download the latest version or go to the page on GitHub
  • If you go to the page on GitHub you’ll see “NOTICE OF DEPRECATION This project is dead y’all!” There is a link to a fork of the original but I haven’t played around with that to know if it’s a good replacement or not

I feel like due to the huge change since the video was created it may be a good idea to update the “GitHub for Unity Plugin” and “Locking Files For Collaboration” videos to be accurate with the tools that are available and supported today (or, if the last version of GitHub for Unity still works fine, at least updated instructions on where to download it).

Thank you for validating this. I thought I was losing my mind…

An interesting aside-
Ben pushed the project up AFTER he installed GitHub For Unity.

So GitHub for Unity is a part of the history and project so you can still follow along with him. You just don’t need to do the install.

That’s good to know, thanks. I watched the whole video still, I just didn’t do anything on my end to follow along. Might go back and do that now. Thanks.

@ben, are there any plans to update the course to either work with the fork of the original or at least point us to the link above to download it?
