GitHub announcement - free teams tier

I posted this around a few FB groups already but worth sharing beyond that.

Today they announced unlimited collaborators on private repos for all (previously you were limited to 3 collaborators on private repositories for free user accounts), including teams/users on the “free” tiers (so now you can form ‘teams’ with unlimited private collaborators on repos too):

The only differentiators left for most users worth value between free and paid ($4 per month per user) to consider are:

  1. Branch protection (prevent certain types of pushes or deletions from erasing repo history)
  2. “Insights” that give you some metrics and tree graphs of your repo

By all means not even required for many users, but I do like those features a lot amidst the others.
