Git file compatibility?

Can Git handle any file type? For example can I manage my Blender files with it too?

Thanks!

Hi,

No reason why not, text/binary files are just text/binary files at the end of the day. I’ve not tried it myself yet, however a quick Google search does bring up a number of articles which mention other tools/extensions which can be used with Blender and Git so that there is more of an understanding of what the 3D changes actually were.

As I say, I’ve not tried it myself yet so I can’t really comment on whether this is necessary or not for the .blend files but it sounds like it would have potential.

As with all of these things, probably the easiest way to see would be to give it a go. Perhaps not on something important you’ve created in Blender, just a simple cube. Commit it, then make some changes, commit though, then see if you can revert back a version and see what you get in Blender.
