Get out of the dark

Hi everyone

This in my little project realized thanks to these courses that I am following.
I would like to thank all the teachers; you guys are great. Also another thank you to the community which is very helpful.

After that I will be very happy with any feedback on my little project. All the background music were made by my friend Andrea (Thanks a lot Andrea <3)

Enjoy it

This is really cool! I especially like the music; just subtle enough that it fades into the background but good enough that if you actually pay attention to it you won’t hate it within 30 seconds.

A couple things I wanted to say:

  • You can’t rotate the ship until after you start boosting! Yay!
  • I wasn’t too big of a fan of the fact that if you die you restart the entire game rather than just that level. Feels like far too severe of a punishment

Keep up the good work!

This is by far the weirdst project boost I’ve played, and I meant that as a compliment, it’s even emotional, first emotional project boost I’ve seen.

The atmosphere you created is superb, the use of fog, emission materials and simple primitives, it’s beautiful what you did with so little and that checkpoint is something really cool, haven’t seen that mechanic in other project boost games before, that’s a great way to keep the player engaged but challenged at the same time.

But there are some issues that kill the mood:

  • The top pillar in the first level kinda blends with the background.
  • The music ends too abruptly and starts the same. I suggest you add a fade, you just have to control the volume, I think you can even do that with an animation, that way you can avoid coding.
  • Almost pixel perfect precision gaps, please don’t do that, I know the game should be challenging, but there’s a fine line between frustrating and hard, it gets even more notorius when the second part levels are easier than the first 4.
  • Rick’s voice… anyone that has done the course knows that the boost sound is Rick’s voice distorted, it’s something that really never made me laugh or anything in any other project boost games, but in this scenario it’s just hilarious to have an incredibly emotional game and Rick blowing on a mic for the sound effects, I suggest you change that.

thank you so much for the feedback. I got it, I will make the game less punitive.
the inability to rotate is done on purpose, but if it is not comfortable I will remove it.

thanks again for playing

thank you very much for the feedback and for playing my game. that is just a prototype, I am working on a better version with dialogue and storytelling, with a camera which follows the player (for that reason I chose to keep the basic sounds, I now it sounds ridiculous, I will change it).
I will keep in mind everything you told me, thank you again (I love this community)

thank you very much

No problem, I enjoy giving feedback on people’s projects. And I loved the fact that you couldn’t rotate the ship before you started boosting, so I definitely wouldn’t change that. Yours is actually the first project I’ve seen that does that so it was a nice thing to see.

Beautifully done! Great visuals, music, controls, and overall atmosphere.

However…I’m a filthy cheater when given the opportunity and I was able to skip through all the ghost levels except for the final one by flying across and off the top of the screen with just the bottom tip visible to keep track of my position. Might want to put up some barriers if you haven’t already.
