Get Git Smart UNity Git Hub Section Out of Date?

@ben

I’ve been thru the section and it feels quite out of date now.

  • The Meta files viewing is not in 20 or 21

  • Package Manager is now used to Import Assets and Packages

  • The GutHub for Unity has not been updated sice 2019.
    I got an spinning logo forever when trying to use it and when signing in I got an error.
    I didnt keep it for long as didnt seem much point but did easliy roll back my project to before adding the package!

I think you need to check its working on current Unity and make course adjustments as necessary

PS Did enjoy the course and have been stumbling around SourceTree for a while but now feel more confident I know more where to go and what to do instead of seat of pants and crossed fingers. Cheers

@EddieRocks Thanks for posting about this

I think I will watch through the videos, but ultimately stick with just SourceTree for the reasons that you highlighted.

Having thought I had rolled back my project I doesnt appear I did.
And now (a few days later) the Git bits within Unity look happier and are showing as I believe are expected.
I wonder if there was a delay when using OATH via the web browser…
Stills seems it wants me to sign in (and wont) though looks like I already am…
Odd…

There has been an authorization change with github meaning (even with other 3rd party clients) you need to provide a “personal access token” as the password (generated from your github settings under the developer sub-menu).

This affects everything including sourcetree.

Otherwise the github plugin for unity should be fine; I was using it with unity 2020-2021 before no problem. You don’t even need to use it with github per se, despite the name, I’ve also used it with bitbucket.
