Generated textures, chess board

Sooo I’ve been experimenting with generated textures, very tricky to master but I think I understand the basics now!
Here’s my board, it’s not entirely finished and I didn’t bother lighting it up for scene, these renders are to showcase materials that I’ve manager to create:

Didn’t feel like creating marble squares
I’m trying to recreate board from this reference, haven’t yet figured out how to make black squares wood-like:

Looks good. Is the wood procedural too?

No, not really
Just a texture with some shading
I tried my hand at making procedural wood and failed dramatically lol

Haha me too! I never found a great tutorial for it either. That’s why I got excited when i thought you’d figured it out.

Your tile textures look nice. I like that they are a but subtle. Not sure if you already know this, but one fun thing to play with is using some variation of your noise texture (or whatever randomness you’re using to make the variation) and plug it into the roughness of your shader. It can make for some interesting reflections.

Yep, I played with it a lot ^
Also that’s the very thing that’s used for board’s wood reflections
