Game Ready?

Me and my friend are planning on creating video games in the future, with me doing the models, assets, animations etc. And him doing the programming. As of right now we are working on a 2D game for mobile, we are going to be making another 2D game after that we may try to get to steam depending on if we pull off the concept we have in mind. If we do decently with our games we plan to go on to develop 3D games, which is why I’m taking this amazing blender course so I can prepare for that (Some of which I have already done by creating my robot character). However, I’ve been wondering what the requirements are for a model to be game ready, therefore my reason for this new topic. So if you can, I’d be grateful if you could reply with requirements for models to be game ready. I’m still pretty early in the course but it would be great to know them for future models.

  • Low poly, less calculations, faster game.
  • Use Eevee techniques
  • Depending on how you use a model. Multiple low to high poly versions are needed.
  • Design to fit armatures
  • Use use of normal maps

Do you think this model has potential? I plan on it being an enemy in the game as well a character in cutscenes if I end up adding some in.

I rendered this in Eevee. Also, I don’t plan on making a high poly version of this due to the design of this “race” I’ve created, I plan on all of the machines in this “race” to look low poly, to have sharp geometric shapes, being very simplistic. Let me know your thoughts.

Just do it, use your imagination and create stuff.
Go for it! Don’t think about technical difficulties.
Just create and learn from it.
