Game Jam Team Management

I am with a group of 6 other people, and we got together to make a game for an upcoming game jam (winter 32bit game jam starting Dec 6th).

I left time until the game jam starts because we are all learning together but come from various backgrounds that all settle a component of game development (e.g coding, art, sound, etc)

I have never managed a team specifically for video game development.

Do you have someone who could review my road map and see if it makes sense from a coding/development perspective?

I’m not a GDTV representative, but as a community member I can tell you we have some members who would be interested in giving feedback.

I do tell you in advance that there’s isn’t a single correct road map from a coding/development perspective. Road maps should be a flexible guide, constantly adapting and evolving according to the circumstances.

Get ready to embark on a hilarious journey into the world of excess with American Obesity: An Epidemic ! This pixel-art clicker game delivers laugh-out-loud fun as you guide your character from a trim 130 pounds to the ultimate status of an “Absolute Unit.” With each click, watch your character chow down on everything from burgers to triple-stacked pizzas, growing larger and unlocking ridiculous new food items along the way.

Game Highlights:

  • Click-to-Gain Progression : Each tap fuels your character’s growth, with visible weight changes and new milestone items unlocked as you climb the scales.
  • Hilarious Food Variety : Start with simple fast food and work your way up to deep-fried butter and mega milkshakes as your eating prowess levels up.
  • Comical Automation : Upgrade with food-delivery services and kitchen gadgets to let the calories keep coming even when you’re not clicking. From fast-food subscriptions to industrial grills, the gluttony never stops!
  • Visual Progression : Enjoy watching your character’s transformation from a lightweight to a true heavyweight, with comical visual cues and animations along the way.

American Obesity: An Epidemic is the perfect blend of humor and simplicity for anyone who loves clicker games and satire. Skip the gym and indulge your way to the top of the weight leaderboard. Ready to click your way to the ultimate feast?

I don’t mind sharing the information freely with anyone who is willing to help.

We have a discord server with all the below information and more. Sunday is supposed to be our first team meeting

I have:

  • 3 week road map
  • Game Design overview
  • List for both visual and sound assets needed
  • A rough sketch (very rough) of what it should look like
  • Examples of other games in the genre (Adventure Capitalist)
  • A learning outline for what everyone needs to be up to speed

If anyone has any interest in offering advice and/or joinging let me know!

Hi Adam,
I don’t think you should share your email or phone publicly because it will get picked up and used for spam via search engines and the likes. The best place to reach out is probably on the GameDev discord which you may not have access to unless you’ve taken one of our courses. I am not sure if it is available otherwise.

Good luck with the gamejam

GDTV Discord is available for anyone trough the links of the community page.
