[GAME] Glitch Garden Prototype

My first prototype of Glitch Garden

I’ve added different items to the tutorial: extra defenders and attackers, a pausemenu and particle effects.

I’m writing this while playing through the game.

  1. Like the music choice for the menu. I really like the “how to play”. It feels like you just got the right amount of funny comments there. Also looking at the additional and diverse characters, I can’t wait to play the game! :slight_smile:
  2. Options: Check on the volume controller. I don’t know if it’s only WebGL, or you might have a typo somewhere. The slider seems to get to full volume at about 5% and it doesn’t feel like it does anything after that. Nicely done credits and you even added a Udemy link to Ben. Nice :wink:
  3. In the second game first map, no opponent came what seemed like quite some time. Now I’m not complaining, it was easier for me. :slight_smile: Not sure you intended it that way though.
  4. It seemed like when something jumps over a gravestone they also teleport through the next defender. The little cheaters! :slight_smile:
  5. Nice pause menu!
  6. This time on the 2nd, or 3rd level I was instantly overwhelmed at the beginning.
    Next game, in the middle of the first level, I got a good breather to catch my breath. I guess this is to do with the random logic you are using there. If you want, you can try to tune on that.
  7. Love how the pancakes fly!

Could not look at all the details well - I was busy protecting the garden - but I think you’ve done a pretty good job.
Kudos on the extra defenders, attackers, and the extra touches!
I really enjoyed it.

Now I’m thinking if I uploaded my glitch garden back when I finished it. Probably not because I didn’t do anything special except adding health bars.

Its been a giant leap for me to post it, but whats a game if noone can play (and hopefully have a good time with) it :slight_smile:
I encourage you to post it, no bunnies harmed!

I recognise the difficulty randomness and thats an issue I have to dig in later, when I’m more advanced to tune it and make the difficulty slider work.

I look into the gravestone, thats a new one :slight_smile: Ive found out that sometimes they walk through a trophy star when a defender in front of it dies.

I havent encountered the volume problem (Ran it on pc and android) I hope someone else can confirm its ok or your share your observation. (So I can adjust it)

Ive let some of my colleagues playtest the game and also got good points from them as well:

  • Someone found it harsh you have to start all over again on the first level when defeated. Im thinking about a “same level” restart button on the game over screen.
  • Most insightfull feedback was from someone who didnt want to read all the stuff on the How to Play screen and just started clicking (which didnt end well hehe). Now thats a challenge, how to make a tutorial or simple navigation so that the gameplay can be picked up easily.

Optional things to add: healthbars (although thy would become small on mobile) and a Dutch language version (my native language)

For now I’m focussing on the Unity 2 course and Ill come back later to tune Glitch Garden, because i like it to play it myself :slight_smile:
