First of all, please check your console while you are playing your game. When the particles are supposed to appear in your game, is there an error message in your console?
Does "“Hit by particle:” appear in your console? If not, is the Collision module enabled in your Particle System? And is “Send Collision Messages” enabled in the Collision module? If not, enable it/them, please.
