I had a lot of fun doing this, took about 8-10 hours from start to finish. Figured that my face sculpt went pretty well so I went ahead and dove in to do the furry heads with little guidance.
Last things first, final render:
My process was:
- Blocking out major shapes with metaballs + converting to mesh
- Sculpting out the body with some reference images
- Adding some bezier curves for the tusks, beveling them, then pinching one end with proportional editing to make them sharp
- Adding eyes/lids just like we did in the head sculpting section
- Added small half-spheres for toes
At this point mr mammoth looked like this:
Slapped on some fur, changes the colors around a little, added some hair variation:
At this point I was curious if I could do some rigging based off what I learned from the animated lamp section. Added vertex groups for each bone, added the armature modifier to the mammoth and started posing. It was a little wonky but overall I like how it turned out! Nabbed the HDRI and snow texture from Polyhaven.
Looking forward to future lectures!
