In visual code (at least on windows) you can use alt+shift+left click and drag to select an aligned column across lines. you can also use the middle mouse button if you have one.
if you want to select the end of the line, make sure your cursor is farther right than your longest line of code.
I find this method easier than the keyboard shortcuts.
