Free Ebook

Aww, shucks, not really a fault thing

I don’t expect it’s something that Packt police that strongly, lets face it once they release something for free anyone could download it and email to 20 friends who haven’t visited their site. If people share these things less publicly who would really know.

You aren’t the first to offer to share them, I saw it previously on the Facebook group also and I posted a similar comment there, but I fully appreciate that it is only people trying to help other people out - because they unfortunately missed the time frame it was available for/problems downloading it.

I heard back from Packt today, but they wanted a little more information with regards to my initial query, hopefully I will hear back tomorrow - fingers crossed for a positive outcome! I will of course post when I hear back.

Just to follow up on the What You Need To Know About Unity 5 ebook not adding to my MyEbooks section on my Packt account. It didn’t work on my mobile device at all, nothing in order history either, but it did work on my desktop machine.
I suspect it may have been an issue with my mobile browser. Food for thought for anyone having trouble.

Is there really an issue if you post a link to PacktPub’s site, and not posting the file itself? Just curious.

Sorry Eric, in what context?

There is an issue with posting, say, the .pdf of a book offered free on PacktPub, as they own the intellectual property and they get to decide how it is disseminated. It’s even in their terms of service.

Yeah that makes sense. I haven’t seen anyone post any PDFs here, just links to the free learning page, which updates every day, which is what prompted me to ask.

One person did, then deleted it.

Oh I see. Yes, Todd is correct. A link to a copy of the file was posted as opposed to a link to their website. It was only a case of goodwill/community spirit though and it was kindly taken back down afterwards.

Seems like everything is $5 at the minute (including videos but I have no experience with them), so if you can’t wait until ā€œearly 2017ā€ for the freebies to come back and you have your eye on something, now might be a good time to grab it.

Yeah, often I’ll find a book I really want, and that never shows up on the freebies page, so the $5 deal is a good time to get something you’ve had your eye on really cheap.

They’re giving away a free Raspberry Pi ebook right now, if anyone is interested in that kind of thing.

Personally it’s not for me, but I thought I’d share the info.
