Flying Blender Models in RealFlight

I’m interested in using Blender to model the aircraft and airports I fly in Realflight. I’m considering a tool-chain that uses 3ds files and corresponding tga images. Apparently the stock Blender 3ds file exporter does not include the node structure in the way expected by the RealFlight import utilities (http://www.knifeedge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17674). I would love to hear from anyone who can explain to me what this means.

What axis is up? How about “handedness”?

  • I suspect z up and right-handedness.
    Does the scale set in Blender come through?
  • I suspect no and I’ll model with a scale of 1 to be safe.
    Does the model have an appropriate origin?
    Are the meshes grouped appropriately?
    Is the model closed? How about the base?
